“Just the right amount of cinnamon & apple with a crunchy topping.”
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Servings: 16
Yield: 2 cakes
Ingredients
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter
3 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup applesauce
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 large apple, diced
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
1 large box vanilla pudding
Streusel
1 stick of butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup chopped pecans
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325° F (165° C).
- Mix streusel toppings until crumbly. Set aside.
- Combine cake ingredients.
- Grease two 8 x 8 pans.
- Pour half the batter on the bottom of the 2 pans.
- Sprinkle half of the streusel topping over the cake.
- Top with remaining batter.
- Sprinkle remaining streusel on the top.
- Bake for one hour or until the bread loosens evenly from the sides and a toothpick inserted in the center of the bread comes out clean.
- ENJOY!

A little extra work but very good-moist.
I’ve made this 3 times and it’s everybody’s favorite. Best AFB recipe I’ve ever made. A definate keeper!
I made these into muffins but I didn’t use pecans and….it was alot of work, when you have to pour half, add struesel, then pour more batter! But they were well worth it! My daughter gave some to friends and her teacher and everyone raved! A must try! (i took pictures, but having camera problems, will upload if/when I fix it)
