“This tasty bread is a very pretty addition to a Sunday meal with family!”

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 70 minutes
Servings: 16
Yield: 2 loaves

Ingredients

1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter
3 eggs
1 cup oil
1/2 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups flour
2 small boxes instant cheesecake flavored pudding
3/4 cup chopped nuts (any kind)
1/2 cup black currant whole-fruit preserves, divided

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325° F (165° C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add ingredients as listed.
  3. Grease 2 large loaf pans.
  4. Dust pans with 1/4 cup sugar each and set aside.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the pans.
  6. Spoon the preserves in a long line on top of the batter. With the back of a butter knife, force the preserves as far down into the batter without touching the bottom of the pan, then smooth the batter over the top of the preserves as best you can.
  7. Bake for one hour or until the bread loosens evenly from the sides and the center of the loaf springs back when touched.
  8. Cool completely before cutting.
  9. ENJOY!

Kitchen Notes

Cool this loaf completely before cutting so that the slices are pretty and ’professional’ looking. Serve with a dollop of real whipped cream laced with vanilla. Muffins can also be made with this recipe by filling the muffin tin 2/3 full of batter and forcing 1/2 teaspoon of the preserves into the middle of the batter, followed by smoothing the batter over. Bake these for about 20 minutes more or less.
