Kitchen Notes
From Rebecca Givens Bickerstaff: “This recipe uses all-purpose flour. To use self-rising flour omit, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Sweeten up this recipe by adding in 1 cup of white chocolate chip that have been tossed with a small amount of flour before adding to batter. If you use a glass loaf pan or dark loaf pan, decrease the oven temperature by 25° F.”

There’s nothing Amish and nothing frugal about instant pudding mix. Please work on more recipes that do not rely on Jello brand.

Hi! In the true spirit of the original Amish Friendship Bread “Culinary Chain letter” recipe, we include the ingredients it listed. The variations that you find in the Recipe Box are substituting those ingredients for similar ones. If you do not care to use store bought jello mix, check our recipe box. The Kitchen came up with a good substitute. We would love for you to share your experiences and substitutions. Happy Baking.
