Here’s a quick picture of our latest starter, just shy of 10 days. And just in time, too! I have a line-up of FOUR great holiday breads to test tomorrow and I can’t wait to get started.
Here’s what I’ll be baking:
- Pull-apart Parker House rolls
- Grissini (breadsticks)
- Buttery buns
Adjusting recipes to work with Amish Friendship bread starters takes some tweaking, but it’s worth it in the end. Having lots of options with your starter means you can always keep a bag on hand to bake and share with others. It’s why we bake Amish Friendship Bread, after all.
I’ll post the recipes with pictures–if they worked–and if they didn’t, well, I’ll post about that, too! A few epic fails here and there keeps us on our toes (though I am silently optimistic it will all turn out perfectly. Ha!).

- I love my Pyrex Prepware 4-Quart Rimmed Mixing Bowl which fits the starter perfectly and leaves a little room for the starter to grow. And don’t forget your wooden spoon! (These affiliate links help support the Kitchen and we only highlight items we use and love (and think you will, too)).
- Our Nordic Ware botanical pumpkin loaf pan giveaway ends tomorrow. It’s super easy to enter, so check it out here.
