Following are submission guidelines for the Friendship Bread Kitchen.
SUBMIT A RECIPE
Do you have a great Amish Friendship Bread recipe to add to the Recipe Box? We’d love to see it! In order to be considered for the Recipe Box, your recipe must contain 1 cup Amish Friendship Bread starter and a photograph of the prepared recipe. Please provide as much detail as possible about the recipe, including how it was inspired.
Submitted recipes that are similar to an existing recipe may be added to the existing recipe as a “Kitchen Note.” Submitted recipes are processed chronologically. The Kitchen reserves the right to accept or reject any submitted recipe.
Recipes must be tested by you and accompanied by a photograph taken by you. Recipes without photographs will not be considered.

SUBMIT A PHOTO
We love pictures of Amish Friendship Bread or the starter. You can find images with almost every recipe, or visit our Facebook albums for hundreds more.
Your photos remain your property but by uploading them and sharing them here, you give us permission to use them on the website or for marketing, cookbook and other publication purposes. We will always credit you! They must be your property and taken by you — please do not submit other people’s photographs, no matter how lovely they are.
Please use natural light when possible — even on a cloudy day. Place the bread or book near a window to take advantage of any natural light. If you baked at night, we recommend waiting until the morning to take the photographs. The bread will look just as good, if not better, with natural light.
Take several shots, and make sure your lens is clean and smudge-free. We are unable to use any photographs that are blurry, so when in doubt, take a step back and let the camera auto focus. Smart phones also take wonderful photos, but again don’t get too close. We can also crop and zoom in on a good photo but we can’t zoom out on a blurry, tight shot. Be careful, too, not to lean into the bread too much or you might cast a shadow on your photo as well.
Remember that less is more. Clear the clutter from the photo. Plain is better than busy or crowded (really). Don’t feel the need to overstage a shot. A nice plate, a fork, a glass of milk or cup of coffee is sometimes all you need. Other easy accessories include cloth napkins, placemats, wooden cutting board, knife, a small pile of chocolate chips or any other ingredient used in the recipe.
Acceptable file types (extensions) are: jpg, jpeg, png, gif. Maximum file size is 2 MB, so please send high resolution images when possible.

SUBMIT YOUR STORIES AND PERSONAL ESSAYS
We are currently accepting submissions for our collection of Friendship Bread Kitchen print and e-publications. In addition to our Amish Friendship Bread recipe collections, we are looking for stories and essays about your true, personal experiences with Amish Friendship Bread. We have different categories for you to choose from, and welcome your stories!
We do not send rejection letters and continue to consider all qualified submitted material for each publication. It may take a few weeks to several months or even two or three years for these publications to be developed, so we thank you for your patience! If your story is chosen for publication, you will be notified using the contact information provided by you. Please view our Terms of Use if you have any additional questions about your submission.
Submissions must be received through our Submission Form. We do not accept submissions sent to our email address or snail mail address.
>> Please note that failure to follow these guidelines may result in rejection or deletion of your submission, so read the guidelines carefully.
Writing Tips
- All stories must be true. The best stories are always written from the heart. Stories should be heartwarming, inspirational, poignant or funny.
- Your story should be written in the first person (“I”). Take a moment to let us, the reader, know who you are as well as any other people in your story.
- If you’re not sure how to begin, read personal essays in anthologies such as Chicken Soup for the Soul, Reader’s Digest Inspiring Stories or the Ladies’ Home Journal True Stories column.
- Start your story with action! Cut out any slow moving or unnecessary details.
- Show, don’t tell — the age-old adage applies here. Use all five senses to bring us into the story. Let us experience the story with you!
- Was there a lesson learned or a-ha moment? Did you realize something new or important? What do you want us to take away from your story?
- Please check your story for spelling and grammatical errors. Be sure to include simple formatting such as paragraph returns. Your story may also be edited for clarity or brevity by the Friendship Bread Kitchen.
- Please refrain from preaching, politics, or controversial issues. Submissions that include this content will not be considered.
- Please keep a copy of your submission. Even if we have a copy of your submission on file, it takes time for us to locate the correct file, verify the information, and send it back to you. In addition, a copy of your submission was sent to you at the time of your submission (assuming your email address was correct and our email address is whitelisted by your email server — please check your spam folder if you did not receive it). We are not able to assist with any requests for copies of any previous submitted material.
- Please remember that by submitting your story to us, you give us the right to publish the story.
