Day 5: December 12, 2019 Thursday
Welcome to Day 5 of the 12 Days of Kitchen Holiday Giveaway!
How is December going for you? It’s a busy time of the year, and if you’re an introvert like me, it can easily get overwhelming. It’s a relief whenever I can find a short cut that makes life easier, so here are two tips to keep your Amish Friendship Bread baking on track this season:
- For those of you who love Amish Friendship Bread but don’t have the time to make a starter, try this No Starter, Starter Free, Amish Friendship Bread recipe if you want to get a couple loaves in the oven ASAP.
- Always keep a starter on hand. The next time you feed your starter, put a cup aside and toss it in the freezer. Here’s a tutorial to teach you how.
The Recipe
Continuing with the theme of easy, today’s featured recipe is Amish Friendship Bread Dump Cookies. It’s a nice, basic recipe that will take any holidays add-ins you have. Here are a few suggestions, and feel free to combine and mix them up for a festive treat:
- red and green M&M’s
- chopped Andes peppermints
- chocolate, white chocolate or butterscotch chips
- crushed candy canes
- chopped candied pecans
- broken pretzels
- sprinkles galore!
This is a great way to make holiday cookies without too much fuss, and to use up whatever extras you might have in your pantry.

You can use this to make decorative pie crusts as well — try it with our Amish Friendship Bread pie crust recipe!
- Solid beech hardwood
- 1 embossed rolling pin with paisley/frosty flower pattern

I would love to make cookies with this rolling pin looks amazing
“rolling bin, ”
What’s a “rolling bin”?
And how hard are these pins to clean, with all those nooks and crannies in them?
Never even heard of an “embossed” rolling pin (though I do have a vague recollection of a vintage pin that was divided in squares like a patchwork.) Now I’m wondering if any of my family’s favorite recipes would work with it. (Most of them are drop cookies, and the sugar cookie recipe is too soft to take embossing).
Wonder how hard it is to carve them?
