Amish Friendship Bread Buttery Buns

Get ready for some serious Amish Friendship Bread buttery bun goodness. I keep a running list of savory and traditional sourdough recipes to test and adapt. This one--the classic buttery bun that has the same warm flakiness as any recipe out there--has been on my list for a while. Actually, quite a few have been on my list for a while, but this one got off the page and into the oven. The result? It's fall-apart brilliant, soft on the inside with just enough gentle crunch on the … [Read more...]

Red Velvet Amish Friendship Bread

Growing up, I spent a few years of my childhood in the south--Texas to be exact. My palate is definitely influenced by that time in my life. I have a penchant for things that are fried and still have a craving for biscuits and gravy. But the one thing I never seemed to get was red velvet cake. It just didn't do anything for me, and I figured if I was going to have chocolate, I wanted it to look like chocolate. Plus we all remember the armadillo groom's cake from Steel Magnolias. Yeah, that … [Read more...]

The Friendship Bread Kitchen Turns 6! (+ a Giveaway)

On January 12, 2016, we celebrate six official years in the Friendship Bread Kitchen. It's been quite a journey! When I started the Kitchen, it was about sharing and swapping a few Amish Friendship Bread recipes. I hadn't thought it would grow as it has, with 250+ recipes and over 75,000 friends on Facebook and Pinterest. We got some big time ♥ going on over here. This recipe almost didn't happen, because I'm not a persimmon fan. Maybe it's because I grew up in communities where persimmon trees were everywhere (as in EVERYWHERE), and people were eating them all the time and trying to pass off their extra … [Read more...]

Free 2016 Goal Planner and Worksheets

I'm super excited for 2016. I've been gearing up this past month, tying up loose ends and getting rid of the stuff that no longer works for me. Looking ahead, I see a lot of possibilities, and I can't wait to get started! Like you, I've got a lot going on. For me the list includes writing two new novels, testing Amish Friendship Bread recipes, homeschooling the kids, and keeping my head above the water. Staying focused and being clear about what matters most is critical if I want to get … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Spice Amish Friendship Bread

In the early days of the Friendship Bread Kitchen, the only recipes I had were ones with super easy swaps. Every recipe worked off the main Amish Friendship Bread recipe with a simple addition or deletion--use chocolate instant pudding instead of vanilla, add 1 cup chocolate chips, substitute brown sugar for granulated sugar, and so on. None of it was rocket science, of course, but it was great to be able to glance at a recipe and know immediately if it was something you wanted to make. This … [Read more...]
